Cheshire Interfaith Housing does not give away houses. In addition to a
down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds
of hours of their own labor into building their house and the houses
of others.
The Cheshire Interfaith Housing selection committee chooses
homeowners based on their level of need and income and their willingness
to become partners in the program. Cheshire Interfaith Housing
follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection. Neither race nor
religion is a factor in choosing the families who are selected to
participate in our home building program.
We are modeled after Habitat for Humanity,
but on a local scale.
Key Benefits
- Hard working families get
assistance in obtaining a first home.
- "Sweat Equity" -
the family helps to build their own home, giving them a vested interest in
maintaining a home.
- The volunteers not only gain
skills and a sense of community, but get to know wonderful new families.
